MOM Your uterus is about the size of a grapefruit. Though you are not showing, clothes don’t fit quite as comfortably. If you have had previous pregnancies, you will likely show sooner than you did with the first one. The “grapefruit” is putting enough pressure on your bladder that you continue to urinate frequently. In no time you will get used to automatically scanning everywhere you go to locate the nearest restrooms. You will get a slight break during the “honeymoon phase” of pregnancy during the second trimester. Your nausea and morning sickness (that may have turned into “all day sickness”) is peaking. You may find that you have gone off certain foods that you used to like. Some women also have a taste llike metal in their mouth, which is probably caused by pregnancy hormones. You and the baby are strong and you will get through this. Watch any food triggers and try taking your prenatal vitamin with meals. Changing to one without iron can help. Some women wait to take their prenatal vitamins until their second trimester when morning sickness is gone or milder. Many women notice that they have more vaginal discharge at this stage. This is quite normal, unless the discharge is itchy, uncomfortable or has an unpleasant smell. If your discharge is causing you concern speak to your doctor or midwife, as this may be a sign of a vaginal yeast infection or thrush. Thrush is a common problem during pregnancy, but can be easily treated. There may be some vague stretching sensations in your abdomen. Mild discomforts may be experienced. Your breasts will continue to grow and be sensitive. Ladies don't forget to subscribe to the free WI Weekly newsletter! |
