At this point of the pregnancy you will be in the middle of your second trimester. Though you are obviously showing, the size of the baby should have minimal impact on movement and daily activities. This stage doesn’t last for long. Some babies go through a growing spurt in the upcoming weeks and so will the mom’s tummy. You are over half way to delivery, only 19 more weeks to go!
MOM
There may be some discomfort associated with the pregnancy at this time. Putting up your feet a few times a day when sitting can help. Also sleeping with a pillow while sleeping will provide support to remain comfortable. Exercising and stretching 2-3 times daily will help with discomfort and strengthen muscles. It is not unusually to see you sex drive increase. For some women it grows as the baby grows.
BABY
The baby weighs about 11 ounces is around 7 inches long. There are facial features and the baby looks similar to what it will look like when it is born. The baby’s activity can be felt regularly. There is thumb sucking and yawning, also. An old fashioned stethoscope can pick up the heartbeat.
Blood cells begin to be produced by the bone marrow instead of the liver and spleen. Amniotic fluid is swallowed and the intestines begin to absorb small amounts of sugar. The baby may have the hiccups and mom will feel the repetitive movement of the hiccups. It can vary from occasionally to several times a day.
LIFE
It’s time to be decorating the nursery or the corner in room that will be dedicated to the baby. Simple decorations can be made from old calendars, wrapping paper, scarves, and quilt pieces. Put it in a frame and original wall décor is created.
Allow some pampering with a pedicure, manicure, a lunch with the girls, or a spa day. Before you know it, everything will joyfully be about the baby. Get some time alone with your partner, kids and other family members they will enjoy some time with you also.
Those who have children know that the time for anything but the baby may be limited temporarily. These moments will have to hold until those first months of being parents pass. It may be more difficult to get out with the baby. Even with the opportunity of volunteer childcare from a friend or relative, babies are hard to leave!
The last months of pregnancy can be tiring and it can be physically difficult to do some tasks. This trimester is a good time to get things done before the end of the third trimester is upon you.
