halloween crafts Children and adults enjoy being creative at Halloween. Most crafts can be simplified for children. Simple children’s crafts can be the base for a craft that can be embellished and more detailed for adults. Halloween crafts should fit the abilities of the crafter so crafting stays fun and doesn’t become a source of frustration.

GLUE SHAPES

Glue can be squeezed onto wax paper in different shapes. Once dried there is a flexible and semi-transparent shape. Embellishments can be added before the shape dries or glued on after the shape dries.

Children-create a simple shape like a ghost, pumpkin, bone, or cat face. Before it dries add simple shapes for eyes, nose and mouth. Glitter can be sprinkled on it when it is wet.

Adults-the glue can be mixed with color or glitter before the shape is created. The shapes can be more complicated like a haunted house. It can also have more details and embellishments.

Uses for shapes:

  • Hang on garland

  • Make a necklace

  • Embellishment for Halloween card or treat bag

  • Ornament to hang on branch spray painted black

If you are making a lot of shapes, go to a school or office supply store to buy glue in bulk.

PAPER LUNCH BAG CRAFTS

A package of basic brown paper lunch bags can provide the base of many crafts. At a craft store the bags can be purchased in black, white, and orange for Halloween.

Treat bags-a Halloween treat bag can be made by drawing and painting Halloween shapes. Cut out shapes can be glued on the bags. Adults and older children can use scrap-booking supplies to create beautiful and elaborate treat bags.

Ghosts-white paper lunch bags are suggested. Place the bottom of the bag at the top of the table; draw ghost eyes and a mouth. Glow in the dark paint works well. Take a wadded ball of newspaper and place in the bag. Tie yarn or string under where the ball is. The bag will hang “upside down”. This is the ghost head. The bag edges can be scalloped or cut in strips. From the “neck” shiny ribbon can be hung to reflect light in the dark. The ghosts can be hung from trees and used as garland.

Walkway border-Decorate a dozen or more bags in a single design or alternating designs. Fill with about an inch of play sand and line a walkway to the house or line up along a sidewalk, similar to luminaries, but without the candle. Individual bags can be placed around the house for decorations.

Halloween crafts can be simple or detailed. Usually you will find that simple supplies bring out the most creativity.
