Great parties can happen spontaneously, but most parties are most successful with some planning. The planning can start anytime with a notebook and a little brainstorming for ideas.
6 WEEKS BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS PARTY
- Set a date, time, and location of the party
- Chose a theme (snowflakes, snowman, penguins, trees, etc) and find ideas from your notebook that can be used with the theme.
- Decide on a budget for the party. It should then be divided between the following categories-food, decorations, games, gifts, and misc.
- Assign tasks to people
- Get cost estimates
- Make guest list
- Purchase invitations
5 WEEKS BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS PARTY
- Decide on party location
- Send out invitations
- Set menu
- With estimates in hand, make final decisions
4 WEEKS BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS PARTY
- Take inventory of items for party on hand
- Make list of needed items
- Begin purchases
3 WEEKS BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS PARTY
- Order anything that needs ordering like a cake
- Go over all plans and details, edit if needed
- Relax a little about the party
2 WEEKS BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS PARTY
- Have everything except food an drink purchased and ready for the party
- Go over RSVP’s to get an idea of the number of guests
- Begin cleaning the house
- Prepare anything that can be done ahead of time
WEEK OF PARTY
- Make final count on guest list
- Finalize food and drink list
- Purchase food and drink for the party
DAY OF PARTY
- Remember to have fun!
- Finish cleaning
- Decorate
- Prepare food
- Set out food and drink
- Have games ready to play w/gifts near by
When possible, have a few minutes to relax before guests arrive. They are coming to visit with you, too! Be ready to enjoy the party you worked hard to pull together.
